A former Palisade music instructor accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports District Judge Richard Gurley sentenced 59-year-old James David Tiner on Friday. Tiner previously pleaded guilty to sexual assault on a child as a pattern of abuse, and a separate count of sexual assault on a child.
A plea deal says he will not be eligible for parole until he serves 15 years. Tiner advertised his music teacher services in newspapers in 2009 and 2010. He was accused of sexually assaulting the girl during lessons at his home. Tiner was arrested in Garfield County on Dec. 22 based on an anonymous tip.
