In yet another shocking case of crimes against women in Karnataka, a 12th standard student in Mangalore has accused her Kannada teacher of sexually assaulting her. A case of sexual harassment been registered by the police.
The complainant, a 16-year-old girl allege that the teacher had been harassing her for the past few days. The accused also made her stand in his chamber and allegedly threatened her to give less marks in the examination if the victim resisted his advances.
“We have received a case wherein the girl has complained of being sexually harassed. After a medical examination we can say something about this case,” Police Inspector T Shankarappa said.
Initially, the girl did not inform her family members about the incident. However, prolonged silence alarmed the parents who confronted her before coming to know about the ordeal which their daughter had been subjected to in the past few days.
The parents have registered a complaint with the Mangalore Rural police station.
“We heard through media reports that a girl from our school was molested by our teacher. We are protesting here and have asked the college if it is going to take any action in this regard,” Rohan, a student said.
“We are saying please take action. We girls want to feel safe,” Bhavya, another student said.
The cops have filed the case under Sections 354, 509, 116 read with 306 of the Indian Penal Code. Since the victim is a minor, additional charges under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences(POCSO) Act have also been slapped on the accused.
