A Berks County middle school teacher is accused of repeatedly having sex with a 14-year-old student at her Bethlehem Township home and sending him naked photos of herself, according to court records.
Jessica Saienni, 30, will face allegations of statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, institutional sexual assault of a student and related charges filed Wednesday by Berks County detectives, though she has yet to be arraigned on them.
Authorities charge Saienni had sex with the boy between June and August 2012, with most of the encounters occurring at her now-former home on Third Street in Bethlehem Township. Saienni is married to Bethlehem police officer Michael J. DiLuzio, son of Bethlehem police Chief Mark DiLuzio.
According to the criminal complaint, filed with District Judge Ann Young of South Heidelberg Township:
In the 2011-12 academic year, Saienni was the boy’s seventh-grade science teacher at Southwest Middle School. In detailing their sexual relationship that summer, the boy reported that Saienni would text-message him, pick him up in her vehicle and drive him to where they would have sex.
The first encounter happened after she parked her car near a fitness center in Wyomissing, Berks County. An additional four to five encounters were at her former house, which the boy was able to describe to investigators.
The boy said Saienni also sent him photos of her breasts and vagina, and told him not to tell anyone about their relationship.
Berks County District Attorney John Adams said Saienni, now of London Britain Township, Chester County, is expected to turn herself in to authorities Friday. He would not comment further about the case.
In January, Saienni resigned before the criminal charges were filed, said John George, acting superintendent of Reading School District. George said none of the alleged sexual contact happened on school property.
Mark DiLuzio said he was aware of the allegations against his now-estranged daughter-in-law, noting that she and his son have been separated. He said the criminal charges have nothing to do with him or his son, who declined to comment Thursday.
“We’re just as shocked as anyone else,” Mark DiLuzio said. “This is between her and the authorities in Berks County.”
Civil court records show that Michael DiLuzio filed for divorce Jan. 29 — less than four hours after a Northampton County detective served a search warrant at their house in connection with the criminal investigation.
Search warrant filings in Northampton County Court provide further details into the allegations against Saienni. According to the documents filed by county Detective Robert Righi, the boy reported that Saienni began text-messaging him after an end-of-the-year field trip in which students were required to fill out permission slips with their cellphone numbers.
The boy told investigators that he and Saienni began to exchange regular messages and agreed to meet on his 14th birthday, when she gave him a cake and had him help her clean her classroom. During a second meeting, the filings say, Saienni picked the boy up in her car a block from his home and drove around with him, though “nothing sexual occurred.”
The texting continued and became sexual in nature, the boy reported. It was on their third meeting that they had sex in her vehicle, the records said.
The boy described tattoos that Saienni had of an eagle and a sun, which were photographed by Righi, according to a search warrant inventory.
The search warrant filings listed Saienni by her married name of DiLuzio. After her husband’s divorce filing, she legally re-adopted her maiden name Jan. 30, civil records show. The charges in Berks County were done under that name.
