A Physical Education teacher is facing charges after an 11-year-old student accused him of sexual abuse.
The boy’s parents filed the complaint of child abuse in the provincial prosecutor’s office against the teacher, an event coach during the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) meet held in Balamban town, about 63 kilometers west of here, last month.
The teacher has not reported for work at Talisay City National High School after the allegations against him surfaced.
Talisay City Mayor Johnny delos Reyes, however, ordered the teacher terminated from the school “to teach him a lesson.”
“This will serve also as a warning to others who have committed the same or is planning to do the same. They have to respect the rights of the children,” the mayor said.
The victim is a member of the football team of the Talisay City Division that competed in the CVIRAA.
The boy claimed that the coach touched his private parts in the evening of Feb. 26. while they were in Asturias Central School, one of the billeting quarters for CVIRAA athletes, in Asturias town, about 71 km west of Cebu City.
The sexual assault took place as other athletes and coaches were gathered for an evening prayer.
When teachers learned about the case, they accompanied the boy to the Asturias police station where they had it listed on the blotter.
PO3 Menchu Serognas, of the women and children’s desk of the Asturias police, said the sexual assault happened twice on the same day—at 7:30 p.m. and about an hour later.
Leah Noveras, Talisay City division superintendent, said the boy reported the abuse to her.
