A 52-year-old Vaughan piano teacher is accused of sexually assaulting a young pupil nearly a decade ago, police said Thursday.
An investigation was launched on Sept. 13 after a teenage girl came forward with allegations involving her former teacher that date back to 2006, York Regional Police Const. Andy Pattenden said.
“The victim took private piano lessons at the accused’s home in the city of Vaughan,” Pattenden said.
He said the inappropriate behaviour allegedly began when the girl was only eight years old.
Raman Aizenshtat was charged with two counts each of sexual assault and sexual interference.
“The accused has been teaching piano lessons in his home for 15 years,” Pattenden said. “Investigators believe that there may be more victims.”
Police encourage victims to report incidents of sexual assault, including historical offences, he said.
“There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence,” Pattenden said.
