A jury has been selected, and the trial is set to begin for a former Panhandle teacher accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

38-year-old Richard Cobos of Gering is charged with felony third-degree sexual assault of a child. Police say Cobos assaulted the girl on several occasions between 2009 and 2012 when she was staying at his house.

Cobos was a math teacher at Mitchell Jr. High School. Scotts Bluff County Attorney Doug Warner expects the trial to last about two-and-a-half days. Cobos could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
