Officers with the U.S. Marshal Task Force arrested a former Iao School band teacher in Wailuku Friday in connection with sexual assaults of a student between 2008 and 2010.
Jim Alan Balicanta, 40, was arrested at 7:50 a.m. today at 85 Kapi Lane. A Maui Circuit Court judge issued a warrant for Balicanta’s arrest on April 20 for 27 counts of first-degree sexual assault, and 25 counts of third-degree sexual assault.
The Marshals Service said the assaults happened between 2008 and 2010 while the girl was a student at the school. The girl didn’t report the incidents until January. She is currently a high school student on Maui.
Balicanta is currently being held in lieu of $750,000 bail.
