Former Lincoln Community High School teacher Doug Benz was escorted in handcuffs from a Logan County courtroom Tuesday morning after admitting he sexually abused one of his students last year.
He’s headed to prison to begin serving a six-year sentence that was part of a plea agreement, which also called for the dismissal of six other counts alleging sexual assault and abuse. Circuit Judge Thomas Harris approved the agreement and handed down the sentence.
Benz, 45, also was fined $5,000 and ordered to serve a two-year mandatory supervised release period after he gets out of state prison. Other terms of the plea agreement included Benz paying a $200 sexual assault fine and a $500 sex offender fine.
