A Cody High School graduate and former CHS teacher/coach was sentenced to up to 30 years in prison Tuesday on child sexual abuse charges.
John Robert James Cody, 42, of Washington City, Utah, pleaded guilty in Utah’s fifth district court in January to charges he sexually touched three girls ages 12-19 during two separate swimming pool incidents in 2008 and ’09.
Cody also pleaded guilty to charges filed in Washington County, Utah, that he sexually touched a female relative on a few occasions when she was 10-12 years old. The victim lives in Oregon and reported the incidents to police there.
Cody graduated from CHS in 1988. After college he returned to Cody and was a basketball coach and taught social studies at CHS for about nine years, beginning in 1993.
