A teacher at an exclusive Princeton boarding school was arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse of a 16-year-old student, police said Monday.
Nolan A. Johnson, 39, a technical theater teacher at The Hun School of Princeton was arrested and charged with three counts of second-degree sexual assault and one count of second degree endangering the welfare of a child, Sgt. Steven Riccitello said.
Police say that Johnson, of Morrisville, Pa., engaged in inappropriate sexual behavior with the teenage girl on numerous occasions in June and July, while Nolan was the girl’s teacher. The incidents occurred both on and off the school’s campus, Riccitello said.
School officials said Johnson was placed on leave as soon as they learned of the misconduct and immediately dismissed after he told police that he had an inappropriate relationship with a student.
“We find Mr. Johnson’s actions … deplorable and we are saddened by their inevitable impact,” the school said in a statement. “Our policies and expectations in this area are clear. And, under no circumstances will we tolerate a violation of the basic trust between teacher and student.”
The school said it would continue to assist authorities in their ongoing investigation.
References to Johnson’s name were not found on the Hun School’s website or on its Facebook page. Although references to his name and his connection to the school were found in internet web searches, links to those pages on the school’s website and Facebook page turned up empty Monday.
Johnson also is executive director of CSJ Productions, based in Morrisville, Pa., which provides children’s birthday party entertainment. A call to CSJ Productions was not immediately returned Monday, but the outgoing voice mail message identifies Johnson as the theater manager at the Hun School.
