Authorities sentenced a high school teacher to probation instead of jail after she pleaded guilty of having sex with a minor.
KHOU reported Nikki Scherwitz had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student that lasted weeks. The former teacher at Brazosport ISD in Houston reportedly pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to 10 years of probation.
Authorities fined the 26-year-old former teacher $5,000. According to KHOU, a plea deal was set because the victim was almost 17-years-old and Scherwitz wrote an apology to the mother of the victim and school district.
KHOU reported that the 26-year-old has been ordered away from juveniles and will not be able to teach again.
