A 30-year-old teacher who works at Stetson Hills Elementary School was arrested Friday after police received a Safe2Tell tip about an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and a student.
Christopher Markham, a paraprofessional at the school’s library, is suspected of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, Colorado Springs police said.
Markham was an English teacher at Vista Ridge High School until December, when he was reassigned to Stetson Hills Elementary, the police said. Both schools are in Falcon School District 49.
District 49 said in a release Friday that the investigation centered on a relationship between Markham and a high school student. Markham was on paid administrative leave when he was arrested, the news release said.
The tip was received Thursday, D-49 said.
“We are cooperating with the Colorado Springs Police Department, as investigations continue,” said Matt Meister, communications director. “We take such reports seriously, and we know hearing about the possibility of such conduct is difficult for everyone to hear.”
