A Middle Township High School teacher turned himself in to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office on sex assault charges related to crimes against a minor student over the course of a year, Prosecutor Bob Taylor announced today.
Joseph Towns, 34, of North Cape May was charged with sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal sexual contact, official misconduct, possession of child pornography and obscenity of persons under 18.
The State alleges Towns committed these crimes against a student over whom he had supervisory or disciplinary power from October 2012 through October 2013.
Towns was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility, where he posted $175,000 bail.
