A 30-year-old substitute teacher was arrested Wednesday on charges that she carried on a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old boy, the Conejos County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Manassa, Colo., resident Cara Leann Holman was arrested without incident, police said.
The principal of Centauri High School in La Jara, Colo., contacted police recently after he caught wind of a possible inappropriate relationship between Holman and a student, the Sheriff’s Office said.
A deputy assigned to the case found evidence that Holman had been showing up at the student’s workplace and leaving with him during his lunch hour, police said. A thorough investigation revealed that Holman and the teen drove to a spot just outside the Antonito (Colo.) town limits and allegedly had sex, police said.
Police executed a search warrant on Holman’s cell phone and discovered numerous sexual messages sent to the teen, police allege.
Holman stands charged with sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, criminal attempt to commit contributing to the delinquency of a minor and solicitation to commit tampering with physical evidence.
