A Staples High School teacher was arrested Thursday for having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student.
Theron Kissinger, 44, of Southbury, was charged with two counts of sexual assault in the second degree after police secured a warrant for his arrest, according to a press release by the Westport Police Department.
The police department said they received reports about the relationship from school officials.
An investigation confirmed the inappropriate sexual relationship had occurred and that Kissinger was the female victim’s tutor as well as teacher at the school.
Kissinger is listed as a math teacher on the Staples High School website.
The investigation revealed that the two began an intimate relationship after meeting for tutoring sessions outside of school late last year.
Police notified school officials of their findings and actions were taken as detailed in the memo released yesterday by the Superintendent’s Office.
Kissinger was released after he posted $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior court on January 23.
