Officials at Southern Connecticut State University removed an adjunct professor from the classroom after they discovered he is facing sexual assault charges.

William Friskey is accused of having an illegal sexual relationship with a high school student when he was teaching at Ledyard High School.

Friskey taught for several weeks at SCSU during the fall semester before the university discovered that he was facing sexual assault charges.

State policy calls for background checks to be completed before any teacher sets foot inside a classroom at the State’s university system. Officials at SCSU are unsure how Friskey was allowed to start teaching during the fall semester, but removed him as soon as they discovered he was facing charges.

Friskey is due to be sentenced on the sexual assault case at Ledyard High School in February.
