A former Willingboro public school teacher has been charged with trying to lure a 15-year-old female student to engage in sexual activity, authorities announced today.
Patrick N. McGwier, 30, of East Windsor, was arrested in Willingboro while attempting to meet with the victim and is charged with second-degree attempted luring through an electronic means.
McGwier taught the girl while she was in eighth grade at Memorial Middle School.
The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office’s Sexual Assault/Child Abuse and High Tech Crimes units became involved after the girl’s family notified police.
The investigation revealed that McGwier was in contact with the victim through social media earlier this year and had expressed an interest in pursuing a relationship, authorities said.
McGwier communicated with the victim over the Internet, until unknown to him, a detective began to communicate in place of the girl. The two agreed to meet up on Aug. 7 at an undisclosed location in Willingboro.
When McGwier showed up, he was taken into custody by officers from the Willingboro Township Police Department.
He was held in the Burlington County Jail on $100,000 full bail.
