Police have charged a Lethbridge, Alta., teacher of sexually abusing a third young boy, along with a slew of additional child pornography offences.
Jamey Bryan Kristian, 37, was charged last January with seven sexual offences linked to alleged assaults on two boys.
On Thursday, Lethbridge Regional Police added 19 more charges including sexual assault, voyeurism and making and possessing child pornography, said Const. Rob MacGregor of the southern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation unit (ICE).
“Analyzed by ICE technicians were a bunch of images and videos … that’s how these new 19 charges laid,” MacGregor said.
ICE investigators found about 150 videos and more than 2,000 images of child pornography.
Some of them included images of boys in change rooms at Lethbridge-area swimming pools, police said.
In those pictures, a third boy, aged 10 years, was identified as being sexually assaulted, which produced some of child porn videos and pictures seized, MacGregor said.
“It’s obviously disconcerting for the public … our hearts go out to the victims who are touched by these crimes,” he said.
Many of the boys caught on camera in change rooms haven’t been identified, “but that doesn’t mean we’re not trying to,” MacGregor said, adding he doesn’t believe any of the three known victims were Kristian’s students.
The former Raymond elementary school teacher is also accused of abusing a nine-year-old boy last summer and another boy from 2008 to 2012.
Police have found no evidence, he said, that any of the images were distributed or traded.
Kristian’s in custody and is to make an appearance in Lethbridge court on Friday.
