The FBI says tips from the public led them to a music teacher accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old student.
The FBI announced they were looking for James David Tiner, 59, on Thursday. At that time, the FBI said a mother had called police on the western slope in April 2012 to report the sexual abuse of her daughter, which occurred between September 2009 and June 2010.
Tiner allegedly had at least four sexual encounters with the victim, who visited his home for music lessons in Palisade. Investigators also allegedly found multiple videos and photographs inside Tiner’s home that allegedly show the victim in the nude and performing sexual acts with Tiner.
FBI spokesman Dave Joly said police in the New Castle Police Department received tips regarding the possible location of Tiner late Friday. A few hours later, officers from that department spotted Tiner and his vehicle.
After a short pursuit, Joly said officers from New Castle, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI caught Tiner at approximately 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
Joly said Tiner is being held without bond in the Garfield County Detention Facility.
