Authorities have arrested a female Clifton High School teacher on charges of sexually assaulting a male student.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office says 26-year-old Kristin Leone (lee-OWN’-ee) is accused of engaging in sexual conduct with the 16-year-old on two occasions.

Leone’s attorney Ronald Ricci says his client plans to plead not guilty to the charges.

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes says detectives began investigating allegations against the history teacher on Monday. Leone was arrested later in the day and released on $100,000 bond.

Valdes said the first alleged incident occurred on school property, the second in the teacher’s Clifton home. Valdes said there was no sign that anyone was coerced, but the relationship was not legal.

Messages left for officials of the Clifton Department of Education were not returned.
