A former teacher and coach from Traverse City West Senior High School who authorities say had sexual contact with a student has been sentenced to at least 23 months in prison.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/GCOMXd) 45-year-old Lisa Placek (PLAY’-sek) was sentenced Wednesday by Leelanau County Circuit Judge Thomas Power. She earlier pleaded guilty to assault with intent to commit sexual penetration. She initially faced a tougher charge.

Placek worked for the district as a volleyball coach since 1997 and as a teacher since 1999. She resigned in January.

Court documents say police believe Placek committed a sexual act on a 15-year-old male student in her vehicle in Leelanau County’s Elmwood Township on Dec. 31.

Her lawyer has said the plea was made because Placek wanted to move on.
