An ex-administrator, teacher and mentor for a North County military boarding school accused of sexually assaulting at least six of his one-time students was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.

Jeffery S. Barton, 55, was arrested Thursday evening on suspicion of 14 felony counts of oral copulation by force and two felony counts of sodomy by force, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department’s jail records.

The alleged sexual assaults took place while Barton was employed at the Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad. He worked at the college-preparatory school from 1995 until earlier this year.

An investigation began in June, when a former academy student, now an adult, reported allegations of past sexual conduct on the part of Barton, Carlsbad police Lt. Marc Reno said. Detectives subsequently developed leads and identified the additional purported victims.

Barton, an Oceanside resident, was being held at the Vista jail in lieu of $6 million bail.
