JD Floyd teacher charged with having sex with minor

A 35-year-old ESE teacher at JD Floyd K8 is being charged with four counts of sexual assault on a 16-year-old male. Cynthia Lynn Herr, who lives in Citrus County, disclosed recently to a co-worker that she was involved in an intimate relationship with a minor, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

As required by law, the co-worker reported the information to school administrators, which led to an initial criminal investigation by Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, since it was unknown if or where the criminal offense occurred.

Citrus County investigators interviewed the 16-year-old male victim, who confirmed an intimate relationship was occurring between the two, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office has not disclosed whether the victim was a student of Herr’s. The 16 year old told investigators he and Herr engaged in sexual relations in Hernando County.

Hernando County detectives interviewed Herr on Monday, who admitted she picked up the teenager Aug. 24 in Citrus County, drove to a motel in Hernando County where they engaged in sexual relations on four separate occasions throughout the day.

Detectives arrested Herr at 5:45 Monday evening, and jail records show she is being held at the Hernando County Jail on $20,000 bond.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Hernando County School Board has been notified of the arrest. Jail records do not show Herr being arrested in Hernando County at any time in the past.
