A former eighth grade teacher in Highlands Ranch has been arrested on charges alleging he sexually assaulted a former female student.

Thirty-one-year-old Englewood resident Richard Johnson, who goes by Rick, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of 30 felony charges including sexual assault, enticement and sexual exploitation of a child. He is free after posting a $50,000 bond. A message left at a phone number listed for him wasn’t immediately returned Wednesday.

Johnson had taught at Rocky Heights Middle School and was a former basketball coach at Rock Canyon High School, also in Highlands Ranch. Douglas County sheriff’s officials say he left the school district in March. Sheriff’s officials say his arrest stems from an investigation that began in June.

The case has been sealed by the court.
