Hays County is adding another charge to the case against Lockhart High Schoolteacher and coach Christopher Knox, who was arrested in November, accused of an inappropriate relationship with a female student.

In conducting an interview with the student victim, officials have learned that in one of five instances of sexual contact with Knox, she was younger than 17. Therefore, officials are now adding a charge of sexual assault of a child against Knox.

Knox was 27 at the time of the relationship, according to the affidavit.

A Hays County Sheriff’s Office detective conducted an interview with the victim on June 28, and she provided the timeframe of when the sexual encounters with Knox occurred. She told the detective Knox also provided alcohol to her when she visited him at his home in San Marcos, according to the affidavit, and that she spent the night at Knox’s home before he dropped her off on a street behind her home the next morning before she walked home.

The detective attempted to set an interview with Knox on July 3 in regard to the additional charge, and he was directed to contact Knox’s attorney, who lives in San Antonio.

Knox posted a bond of $125,000 when he was arrested and released on Nov. 4 for the initial charge. He had been a teacher and coach at Hays County High School for three years at the time of the arrest. He is no longer listed on the Faculty-Staff list at LHS.

The victim told a school counselor and the detective that the relationship with Knox started on or about Aug. 27, 2011.
